While you are sorting things out it can be helpful to have some trusted resources. Not everyone will understand what you are working through, and not everyone will be good at keeping your process private. Think about what sort of support you want. Then make a short list of people and resources you can turn to.

Sometimes people you assume will be supportive can't meet your needs in this process. If this is the case, don't blame them; know that they might be right for some things, just maybe not this. Think about who you can reach out to instead.

If therapy seems like it might be a good idea, check around to see who might be a good fit. There's no need to settle for the first therapist you come across. Find someone who knows about the kind of situation you're facing.
